Each year, volunteers across the country come together on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to serve their neighbors and communities in honor of Dr. King. As part of this national movement, Feeding South Dakota is hosting “Bring Your Child to Serve Day” on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This day of service will help Feeding South Dakota to provide food to the 1 in 6 children who don’t know where their next meal will come from.
We're excited to offer parents/caregivers and their children an opportunity to volunteer together as a community and generate awareness of the issue of hunger.
What: Children ages 11 and up and their parent/caregiver will work together sorting and packing food in support of our community.
- Children ages 11-14 may volunteer with a parent or guardian.
- Anyone over age 14 may volunteer independently with a waiver form signed by a parent or guardian.
- Anyone under age 18 needs to have their volunteer waiver signed by a parent or guardian before volunteering - just print it out, have the adult sign and bring along on the day of volunteering. Our volunteer projects take place in an active warehouse environment, and we work hard to keep everyone safe.
When: Monday, January 17, 2022 | 9am-12pm or 1-4pm

What precautions are you taking to protect everyone from COVID-19?
At Feeding South Dakota, there is no higher priority than the health and safety of our team members, volunteers and the people we serve. We strive to maintain clean facilities and follow best practices for food safety. We are taking extra precautions, including wearing face coverings, increasing cleaning of surfaces throughout the day, and emphasizing frequent hand washing, use of hand sanitizer and changing of gloves.
Feeding South Dakota protocol related to COVID-19:
- In response to the recent COVID-19 Case numbers effective January 10, 2022 we require masks to be worn by anyone when in Feeding South Dakota public spaces, in group settings and any interactions with others.
- Symptomatic individuals, regardless of immunization status, should stay home and we would be happy to help schedule a future volunteer opportunity.
