BackPack Program Delivery – Sioux Falls
Each week volunteers and staff prepare nearly 3,000 backpacks for children in need of food assistance over the weekend. We need your help! This opportunity includes riding along with a Feeding South Dakota staff member to deliver backpacks to schools throughout the Sioux Falls area.
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteers will ride in a Feeding South Dakota vehicle, assist with unloading and loading totes. Full totes weigh approximately 60 pounds so the ability to lift heavy items is required.
Support/Training:
Wear comfortable clothes in layers, closed-toe/closed-heel shoes and your CDC-recommended cloth face covering or disposable mask. Volunteers will be given instructions and training upon arrival and will have staff support and supervision throughout their shift. Please arrive 10 minutes early to sign our volunteer waiver form.
Qualifications:
- Ability to stand and walk for 3-4 hours at a time
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds
Age Requirements:
This position will be working outside in all weather conditions. For safety reasons, all volunteers must be 18 years or older.
Health/Safety:
At Feeding South Dakota, there is no higher priority than the safety of our volunteers and the people we serve. We strive to maintain clean facilities and follow best practices for food safety.
Due to COVID-19, we are taking extra precautions, including increased cleaning of surfaces throughout the day and emphasizing frequent hand washing, use of hand sanitizer and changing of gloves.
If you have been experiencing symptoms of illness, or have had a positive Covid-19 test in the last 14 days, please stay home at this time. We will be happy to help schedule a future volunteer opportunity.
