Sioux Falls: *FLEXIBLE* Food Sorting/Quality Assurance for Food Pantries (2025)

This opportunity offers semi-flexible scheduling. You’re welcome to come in any time Monday through Thursday between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM and stay for up to 3 hours. When signing up, please include a note about the time you plan to arrive. Thank you!


Feeding South Dakota receives thousands of pounds of donated food per year from various food drives and our retail salvage program, so we need your help to sort it so that we can stock our school and wellness pantries.

Key Responsibilities:

Volunteers will check expiration dates and labels on donated food, and then sort the donated food into categories such as Protein, Rice & Pasta, Cereal, for later distribution to school and wellness pantries.

Support/Training:

Please arrive at least 5 minutes early and wear comfortable clothing in layers and closed-toe/closed-heel shoes. Volunteers will be given instructions and training upon arrival and will have staff support throughout their shift. 

Qualifications:

  • Ability to stand and walk intermittently for 1-2 hours at a time. 
  • Ability to bend at the hips in order to reach product from boxes. 
  • Ability to read fine print. 
  • Have attention to detail. 

Age Requirements:

This position will be working in a warehousing facility alongside forklift traffic. For safety reasons, all volunteers must be 11 years or older. Volunteers under 14 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
