Volunteers may be asked to assist with a variety of tasks taking place at our Pierre Distribution Center. Tasks vary by day and often times by week. Your flexibility is appreciated!
Food Box Packing
Help your neighbors in need by packing food boxes at Feeding South Dakota's Pierre location that will help feed children and families who need food assistance. Volunteers may also work on other projects that aid in food assistance efforts for South Dakotans in need.
Order picking
Volunteers may be asked to assist our warehouse team with picking orders for our agency partners. Volunteers will receive proper training prior to beginning this activity.
Senior Food Box Packing
Help Feeding South Dakota eliminate hunger in our state by filling boxes with food items for senior citizens across the state. Volunteers in this position help us feed food-insecure individuals across the South Dakota. These boxes are distributed from our Pierre distribution center and partner agencies each month.
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteers will pack fresh and nonperishable food items in assembly-line fashion and are spaced/divided into smaller groups within the warehouse to ensure social distancing.
Support/Training:
Please arrive 10 minutes early and wear comfortable clothing in layers and closed-toe/closed-heel shoes. Volunteers will be given instructions and training upon arrival and will have staff support and supervision throughout their shift.
Qualifications:
- Ability to stand and walk for 2-3 hours at a time
- Ability to lift 10 to 30 pounds
Age Requirements:
This position will be working in a warehousing facility alongside forklift traffic. For safety reasons, all volunteers must be 11 years or older. Volunteers under 14 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
