NOTE: This opportunity is NOT at the Feeding South Dakota warehouse on N. Westport Ave. You will need to go to the site of the Sioux Falls Thanksgiving Meal Distribution - Knife River - located at 1305 N. Louise Ave. Volunteers should park on the South side of the building and enter the South door to check in.
Directions:
Volunteers should enter the Knife River property off Louise Avenue. A volunteer will direct you to the appropriate parking area. Please enter the building via the South Door and check-in inside.
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks to help with the Thanksgiving Giveaway. The distribution will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 19th. This opportunity includes working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Volunteer duties may include:
- Directing traffic and greeting the public
- Distributing tickets to guests receiving meals
- Loading food into vehicles and ensuring a friendly farewell
Support/Training:
Please plan for inclement weather. We encourage you to dress in layers and wear comfortable clothing including closed-toe/closed-heel shoes. Volunteers will be given instructions and training upon arrival and will have staff support and supervision throughout their shift.
Volunteers working around traffic will be given additional safety gear to wear. Upon your arrival, you will check in and be given further instruction. Volunteers should be able to:
- stand and walk for 3-4 hours at a time
- lift about 10 to 40 pounds
- Work will be outdoors in winter weather. Please dress accordingly to stay warm. Water and coffee will be available.
Age Requirements:
This position will be working outdoors in a parking lot around vehicle traffic. For safety reasons, all volunteers must be 11 years or older. Volunteers under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

This activity does include some risk to you. Liability and privacy waivers are required to complete before serving.
