Preparations for Thanksgiving Giveaway
As we prepare for our Thanksgiving Giveway on Saturday, November 21, volunteer assistance is needed with a few projects at our distribution center. Projects could include boxing food items, placing pies and turkeys in totes, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteers will pack fresh and nonperishable food items in assembly-line fashion and are spaced/divided into smaller groups within the warehouse to ensure social distancing.
Support/Training:
Wear comfortable clothes in layers, closed-toe/closed-heel shoes and your CDC-recommended cloth face covering or disposable mask. Volunteers will be given instructions and training upon arrival and will have staff support and supervision throughout their shift. Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign our volunteer waiver form.
Qualifications:
- Ability to stand and walk for 2-3 hours at a time
- Ability to lift 10 to 30 pounds
Age Requirements:
This position will be working in a warehousing facility alongside forklift traffic. For safety reasons, all volunteers must be 11 years or older. Volunteers under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Health/Safety:
At Feeding South Dakota, there is no higher priority than the safety of our volunteers and the people we serve. We strive to maintain clean facilities and follow best practices for food safety.
Due to COVID-19, we are taking extra precautions, including increased cleaning of surfaces throughout the day and emphasizing frequent hand washing, use of hand sanitizer and changing of gloves.
If you have been experiencing symptoms of illness, or have had a positive Covid-19 test in the last 14 days, please stay home at this time. We will be happy to help schedule a future volunteer opportunity.
